Third Special Meeting of the Parliament of the Cayman Islands

In summer 2024, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the Speaker of the House of Commons, made a visit to Grand Cayman. He was scheduled to make a stop at our Parliament. At this time, I was working closely with Parliament’s then-Communications Officer, Susan Burke, and she tasked me with creating a programme for the visit to Parliament.

Process

I am a huge proponent for design in Figma, and, as such, I made the entire document in Figma. The document went back and forth a lot between me, my supervisor, and the Chief Officer of the Parliament, Mrs. Zena Merren-Chin.

The experience taught me quite a bit about the way design works in corporate settings —things get changed around, revised, redacted, and edited a lot. Working on this for Parliament in particular also made me think about ‘powers that be’ that govern our design choices.
